The aim of the Master in HR & Organization is to make companies and individuals more competitive and thereby open the door to international growth, by applying theories, research and specific tools to the role of human resources.

With the aim of enhancing human capital, a systematic approach to organization management is developed, which, from the foundations of management, focuses on the core activities of area planning.

The program is international in scope, meaning that students collaborate with professors, successful companies and managers from some of the most advanced organizations in this sector. To complement their classroom experience, students will develop their own professional project, designed to improve their teamwork skills and attitude towards working in a team.

The Master in HR & Organization involves a year of demanding training which, as well as guaranteeing greater employability when they go on to look for work, equips participants to take on the challenges of the managerial roles to which they all aspire.

The program is the only one of its kind in Italy to be held in English and one of the few HR Masters in the world awarded with EPAS accreditation. It consists of interactive lessons, meetings with alumni of the Master, international and group assignments and in-company workshops, concluding with a final internship lasting three or four months. This gives students the chance to put themselves to the test and launch a career geared towards growth in a company, consultancy firm or other organization.

This program is the first Italian Inter-University Master in HRO, thanks to the collaboration of the Universities of Bologna, Ferrara, Modena, and Reggio Emilia.

Structure

The MHRO is a full-time program built around the following learning experiences:

The program starts with kick-off and ice-breaking sessions, which lead into the first term. During the first term, the fundamentals of business are addressed in order to understand companies mode of operation, HR managers role and to provide students with a managerial mind-set. Moreover, during the first term, students focus on ethic and corporate social responsibility topics.
The concepts are organized in the following courses, related to the “Fundamentals in Business Organization” area:

Students are then introduced to key topics in organization and human resources management, by an HR Core Practices review with reference to changes introduced by the Digital Transformation in the HR world. The main goal is to understand the leading challenges and opportunities in the Industry 4.0 era.
Both academic professors and qualified managers lead students through the HR main responsibilities patch. The framework is organized into different courses, as pictured below:

In the meantime, students are involved in different activities, which help them developing soft skills, increasing their individual and team work capabilities and growing their self-esteem.
Students discover how different topics are related during managerial and company workshops. Thanks to a team project in collaboration with AIDP, they are involved in finding a solution to real companies issues.

Career development is a key part of this program. A qualified career counselor, in collaboration with a leader company in HR&O, will assist you with a variety of services and resources. In addition to the above, there will be a personal development project, simulations and interviews with head-hunters and managers, all of which are part of the career development program.

The program includes a 3- to 4-month internship at various companies and consulting firms in Italy or abroad. It is your chance to put into practice the theory and techniques learned during the academic terms. The career development department will assist you to find the internship that is best for you and your development.
At the end of the internship you are required to submit a thesis showcasing your core educational activities during both the academic terms and the internship. The thesis will be presented to the Scientific Committee and to the class.

The Master program is updated and suited to the market needs thanks to a continuous dialogue between the Faculty and a specific Executive Committee of HR Managers from both Italian and international leading companies.

COURSES

The most dramatic recent evolution in careers is a large-scale shift from organizational management of employee careers to employee-directed career self-management, and consequently to the necessity of continuous learning and proactive adaptation in developing yourself, communicating, understanding, strengthening, and articulating your contributions to the effectiveness of groups and organizations. This course will help you successfully launch and manage your career by developing personal and interpersonal competencies including self-awareness, emotional and cultural intelligence, learning agility, communication, presentation, the capacity to develop effective professional relationships, and the ability to manage stress and maintain a healthy integration of personal and professional life.



In recent decades, sustainability practices and corporate social responsibility (CSR) have assumed primary importance for companies as well as for society in general. Although many companies have developed sustainability programs over the years, reducing carbon missions and the amount of waste by boosting operational efficiency on the other, we are seeing a mixture of sustainability tactics that do not increase sustainable strategies.

The purpose of this course is to start a debate about the role and functioning of modern societies when challenges, opportunities and possible solutions in the field of sustainability emerge. Specifically, the aim of the course is to investigate the links between CSR sustainability and the key role that digital technologies can play as a means of translating sustainability strategies into actual results.



This course aims to help students to understand and deal effectively with cultural differences in organization and HR management. After structured reflection on personal cultural experiences and an introduction to intercultural theory, the course enables students to understand better the role of culture in communication, collaboration and management in business.



The course deals with the topics considered most relevant in the context of Digital Culture. Below is an introduction to the main topics covered in the course:
1. Data processing: meaning and limitations (from Kurt Godel and Alan Turing to Quantum and Beyond)
2. Counter Culture vs. Cyber Culture (Stewart Brand & Bob Taylor, a la carte).
3. Codification: Meaning and Perspectives.
4. Internet: Lo and Behold.
5. History of Calculus.
6. The rise of Artificial Intelligence: Of Men and Machines.
7. Digitalization of the text + Analysis of the Literature + Maps + Interactive Media + Games + Design + Media Art: Digital Humanities?
8. Big Brother in action: Surveillance, Hacking, Privacy, Cyber security and Data.
9. Ethics, Moral Responsibility and Responsibility in Data Processing.
10. New Web Economy.



The aim of the course is to enhance students’ awareness of the digital transformation and the changes that this bring in the HR profession. Students will be challenged with the following questions: How is changing the job of a HR professional due to the rise of digital technologies and analytics? What are the competences the HR managers need to develop in order to have a more strategic role in the companies and help their companies to anticipate and manage the transition. Students will also be presented with a framework that will help them to understand the mindset and the necessary steps to implement an analysis project of people in their organization. Moreover, they will be shown how the analytics can help HR managers to improve their decision-making process. The examples will cover the following topics: how could it be measured the impact of the managerial role in the workplace? How can the analysis help to improve the effectiveness and the efficiency of the recruitment process? Basic and advanced metrics will also be discussed in class.



The objective of the course is to provide students with a reasoned overview and with many concrete cases on the dynamics of the management of industrial and labor relations seen as a competitive lever and as a conditioning factor of the company strategy and consensus management within companies and the territory . What are industrial relations and what are they for the actors of the process (Trade Unions, Business Associations, etc.) and their interactions; trade union negotiation and its rules; an overview at the different international realities of trade union negotiations. In addition, the main HR rules in Italy will be presented to students, with reference to both company and employment regulations, in the framework of EU law.



This course intends to read the changes taking place in our production system, with particular attention to how the increasingly widespread use of new technologies is leading to a profound transformation in corporate information systems. In the knowledge economy, the growing popularity of mobile devices and social media, and the digital maturity of an ever-expanding corporate population, represent a huge opportunity for the HR function to offer a more efficient service and successful human capital management.
The course will be characterized by a strong practical connotation, will be considered the main technological platforms on the market and the different areas of application. Basic knowledge will be provided to conduct the analysis and definition of the requirements for HR function for the implementation of an HRMS. Costs and benefits will be evaluated, the return on investment analyzed and the impact that the introduction of ICT solutions for human resources management involve in terms of organizational innovation and corporate culture.



The course aims to analyze the relationship that can exist between strategy, organization, human resource management and performance, deepening the following topics: high commitment work practices; high performance work practices; coherence and complementarity in the practice of human resource management; processes of human resource management to create value; actors, instruments and indicators for measuring human resource management.



The main theories of the relationship between technological and organizational change. New technologies and decision making. The new technologies, forms of interdependencies and coordination. The change of skills. Technological dynamics and transformation of work processes. The computerized management of knowledge. Organizational communication through technology.



The course introduces the logic, criteria and design variables of business organization (organizational design). The theme is addressed and discussed on a theoretical level, through the analysis of the contributions of the authors referenced, and empirically, through the discussion of business cases. In addition, in an interdisciplinary manner, the relationship between organizational design and some relevant organizational dimensions, such as learning and well-being are taught.



Compensation and performance management practices are at the heart of motivating employees. In this course, we will study the motivational theories (such as expectancy and equity theories) and then examine how these relate to the practices used to appraise and to compensate employees. The practices we will study will include determining pay scales, pay mix (i. e., cash and equity), assuring internal and external equity in pay, and different appraisal methods (such as attribute approach, forced ranking, and management by objectives) used by organizations for performance management. We examine these critically to understand their relationship with expected employee behavior. We also examine ways to manage high and low performers. The methodology used for the class includes lectures, exercises, group discussions and case studies.



The acquisition of human resources for the existence and development of enterprises; the recruitment process as organized; the means (market and its actors) and the means of selection; the two sides of the mirror: the view of selection by recruiters and by candidates.



Elements of accounting, budgeting and cost analysis. The measurement and interpretation of economic and financial performance of the company. The economic and financial analysis forecasting and budgeting. The calculation and analysis of costs in decision-making and management control. Management control as an operational mechanism. The systems of strategic control and strategic cost management.



The course aims to present the main business guidelines in the management of talents with particular reference to the paths of growth and development of resources and learning tools. The main topics discussed in the classroom will be the following:

CAREER DEVELOPMENT

The School is fully committed to creating employability, by way of a systematic career service action, constantly focused on matching at best the students’ professional projects with the needs companies have.
The internship is an exceptional springboard, suffice it to say that six months after the end of the MBA at Bologna Business School on average 90% of students work in a company.

The BBS Career Service assists and supports students since the very beginning, along a training and professional development path. This is accomplished by organizing a series of workshops, with the aim of providing the fundamental tools and resources to be appropriately prepared for the labor market.

To achieve this goal, students are involved in several workshops, among which we may list:

  • Writing a CV and a Cover Letter
  • How to create an effective Linkedin profile
  • How to prepare for a job interview
  • The labor market in Italy

 

In addition to this, thanks to the collaboration with professional career counselors, students receive a customized service, in order to understand their strengths and to build a professional development plan, which will turn out to be helpful when looking for an internship. FEES

The tuition fees for the Master is 14,800 euros (VAT free) to be paid in three installments:

  • First installment: 1,850 euros
  • Second installment: 7,000 euros
  • Third installment: 5,950 euros

The fee includes participation in the Master, all the study material available through the online platform, and access to the services and facilities of Bologna Business School such as: personal account for the Alma wi-fi, use of the PCs in the Computer Lab, access to the study areas, access to the internal gym, special rates for the School restaurant. Furthermore, the fee gives participants the right to take advantage of the supporting activities of the School, such as the language courses and the master lectures by invitation.
Free parking is also available within the BBS campus.

Additionally, with the Student Card of the University of Bologna, students have access to all of the university facilities, including over 100 libraries, digital resources and study halls (including databases and online subscriptions); the three city center canteens and all university student related discount offers. SCHOLARSHIPS

At Bologna Business School we understand the importance of financial aid in supporting our students to achieve their educational goals. We are aware that an advanced, high quality training path can be a significant commitment, at the same time we also truly believe that investing in one’s future always pays back.

Bologna Business School is pleased to offer partial scholarships to the most meriting students. All of these scholarships are merit-based and will be awarded to the top-ranked candidates in the selection process. The students who come out on top in the selections will be students who not only come from strong academic or practical backgrounds but also those who display the strongest motivation to take part in this program.

There are scholarships of 6,000 euros and scholarships of 4,000 euros. All applicants will be considered for a scholarship – no specific application is required. They are awarded over the course of every round of selection and if you have performed well enough to merit one of them, you will be informed at the moment of admission.

The scholarships act as tuition waivers, so that they result in a deduction of the total amount of the tuition fees due.

INPS
Thanks to the contribution of INPS (Istituto Nazionale della Previdenza Sociale), 6 scholarships of 10.000 euros are available for the academic year 2018/2019 to INPS employees or retired members, to their children or orphans.

REQUIREMENTS

For the registration it is necessary:

  • a Bachelor’s Degree (must be obtained by the enrollment deadline)
  • English language proficiency

Admission to the program is subject to the positive assessment of your individual interview and English test, if it’s not the candidate’s native language.

For auditors, an undergraduate degree is not necessary.

This Master’s is open to all applicants with a bachelor’s degree obtained before the enrolment deadline of each round.

The selection process will be held at Bologna Business School The selections for the first round will take place on July, 2019 and the selections for the second round will take place on October 2019.
In line with the number of available places, admission to the program is granted according to the position on the list of qualified candidates, drawn up on the basis of the total score awarded at the end of the admissions process.

FAQs

Of course we will. Non-EU citizens have to apply for a student visa before being able to commence their studies. We can provide you with a letter of admission as well as a letter of support, which you can use to make your visa application. In the case of particular problems our staff will be ready to contact embassies directly to discover the source of the problem and solutions to fix it.
After you arrive in Italy, you will be required to apply for a residence permit. Our staff will be able to help you fill out the forms and give you any support you need for this process as well.
Yes. Don’t worry if you if you are unable to present a IELTS or TOEFL, your level of English will be assessed during the selection process. You can be excused from the need to present proof of your English level if you are a native English speaker.
The second level Master is accessible only to those who have a bachelor's degree from the old system or a Laurea Magistrale/Specialistica. To access the first level Master a three-year undergraduate degree or a bachelor’s degree in the old system is sufficient.
Access to a first level University Master requires at least a three-year Bachelor’s degree (or the Bachelor’s degree in the old system); for a second level Master's Degree, the Laurea Magistrale/Specialistica (or the Bachelor’s degree of the old system) is necessary.
Enrolling in multiple university courses is not allowed. Therefore, if you are already enrolled in a degree at this or another university prior to registration into the master you are required to apply for a suspension of studies ("career freeze") at the secretariat of the specific School. During the suspension period you will not be able to undertake exams nor accumulate attendance related to the suspended degree.
Yes, you can enroll prior recognition of the degree at the Italian Embassy or Consulate in the country where it was obtained. More details are available in the tender announcement.

No, once you pass the selections, you can decide whether to formalize the registration to the Master through the registration process. However, it is essential to participate in the selection process and to pass it in order to be able to register.
It is essential, for the purpose of registration, to have completed the degree by the registration deadline.
As long as you have passed the selection process, you can still register as an auditor.
An auditor is someone who participates in a master and who has passed the selection stage but doesn’t have an MA/Specialist degree/degree according the old system/ or hasn’t be graduated within the call’s deadline. An auditor can participate in all lessons, academic activities and to the internship (not compulsory). An auditor doesn’t need to take exams and therefore is not awarded CFU. An auditor will however receive a certificate of attendance by the University of Bologna. Instead of paying €11.200 an auditor pays €9.200
CFU or Crediti Formativi Universitari is a tool to measure the quantity of learning required, including independent work necessary for the student to acquire the knowledge and skills in the subject matter of each specific course.
A credit (CFU) generally corresponds to 25 hours of work including lectures, tutorials, etc., but also independent study. For each academic year, a full time student in the course requires an average amount of work equal to 60 credits, ie. around 1500 hours. The credits are acquired by passing the exam or other testing.
The credits are used to compare different courses in Italian and European universities through an evaluation of the student workload required in certain subject areas in order to achieve the educational objectives defined. They facilitate student mobility between different courses of study, but also between Italian and European universities. Loans acquired during a course of study may be approved for continuing in other courses of study.
The University of Bologna uses the ECTS system accurately applying the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) in all courses of the first cycle (Laurea), second cycle (Laurea Magistrale) and unified cycle. ECTS is a recognized standard created with the goal of supporting mobility and cultural exchange among students at the European level. This standard allows for the comparison of credit systems used by Universities and higher education institutions in Europe, to plan and implement the learning path of students. This allows students who study in one country to see their studies recognized at an institution in another country that applies the same standard.
Yes, every Master is composed of multiple courses, each with an exam at the end and based on whose completion the student earns the relative CFU for the course.

Unlike the Laurea Magistrale or Specialistica, a University Master's degree actively involves students in practical cases, providing skills that facilitate immediate entry into the labor market. Specifically, the Master in Business Management, before the internship period, requires the development of a business plan that is carried out for the duration of the master and 3 one-month-long company projects each with a company chosen by the participant.
