Technology and Innovation

INNOVATION APPLIED TO SUCCESS

The Executive Master in Technology and Innovation Management (EMTIM) was established to bring technological excellence at the centre of the enterprise innovation process. Today, ruling technology innovation means shaping leaders able to master technical subjects as well as handle managerial matters.

This programme allows companies to bring to the surface the full potential of key resources in their technical staff, to be able to compete in a global context in which technology innovation is one of the pivotal levers for success. Participating in the EMTIM means growing professionally and becoming part of a technical-managerial élite, able to affect, profoundly, every level of their organization.

The EMTIM was established thanks to the collaboration between technology-driven companies and the University of Bologna, its aim and approach are unique in Italy. It is a part-time programme lasting 12 months (Friday and Saturday every three weeks) that can fit with work and it is focused on three strands: General Management, Technology and Innovation Management and People Management. Traditional lectures are enriched with specific feature materials on the online platform, focus sessions and visits to companies leading in the technology innovation. The Master ends with the presentation of a project work.

If you’d like to start this transformation, make an appointment with the Master’s course Heads. We’ll talk business and future.

THE MASTER IS AN INVESTMENT.
THE LOAN IS THE WAY TO FUND IT.

COMPANY VISITS

Direct contact with managers and leaders of important companies in their work environments represents a great networking and learning opportunity for the students of this Master. Company visits are available to the whole EMTIM community and allow participants to discuss with managers or entrepreneurs their best practice in terms of innovation management. The visits are usually divided in three moments: presentation of the company and the main competitive aspects, a visit aimed at presenting the main company peculiarities, and discussion over innovation management within the company.

PROJECT WORK

Participants organized in small groups will tackle and develop projects by testing the concepts and techniques learned during the Master on their company. The contents of the project work are developed starting with specific interests of the companies or specific business initiatives. The projects will rely on the support of professional experts (university professors and company managers) who will follow them throughout the entire path. The projects are presented during the final class.

COURSES

The course aims to provide the basic skills necessary to: understand the economic-financial aspects of management; analyze the economic-financial performance of a company; utilize cost information to analyze efficiency and efficacy of company processes; manage costs during the project phases; and understand the role of budgeting control as a guiding operational mechanism for complex organizations.

The subjects analyzed include project planning and control (timing, costs, and technical progress); project organization, the role of project manager and the management of the team; risk management; and management of a project portfolio.

Grandi Alessandro

The course provides the essential tools for managing working groups and personal development. Businesses increasingly need developing a collective, widespread leadership, able to combine the need of taking decisions with the need to listen; the need of letting individuals’ potential emerge with the need of mediating among different requirements. The modern world increasingly needs people who are more able to express themselves and more able to be together. Specifically, the aim of this course is to provide the basic tools to achieve these objectives.

Giovanni Masino

The development of an innovative project requires resources that aren’t often available in the company or entrepreneurial group. Therefore, it’s necessary to get to know one’s own reference innovative ecosystem, to understand which players (investors, incubators, accelerators, businesses) and which initiatives are available to promote innovation in its different development stages. The goal of the course is to provide participants with the basic skills to assess, from a financial point of view, their innovative project and figure out which form of support to turn to in order to accelerate its growth process. There will be a special focus on the advantages and disadvantages that characterize the different forms of funding and on the strategic decisions that every innovation manager needs to take, within an ecosystem-based rationale.

Toschi Laura

The component of service is pervasive also within traditional manufacturing chains and is constantly growing. The aim of the workshop is to analyse the main challenges connected to the management of the immaterial component of the business. This will be done analysing the main specificities that the service activities bring to the attention of the management, attributing a specific emphasis to the design of services that are consistent with (the growing) expectations of recipients.

Marzocchi Gian Luca

Even though many companies have developed sustainability programs over the years, we are currently witnessing a combination of sustainable approaches that are unable to constitute a truly sustainable strategy. The aim of this workshop is to develop a debate on the role and performance of companies, with regards to sustainability challenges, opportunities, and new solutions. Specifically, the objective is to describe and unravel the connections between management of innovation and the theme of sustainability within companies.

of innovative ideas a real necessity. Drawing inspiration from the great thinkers of the past and from the most recent neuroscientific discoveries, the mechanisms of creative thinking are described, up to a general model that can be used in practice, the DIMAI (Drive, Information, Movement, Assessment, Implementation). The various phases of the DIMAI model are therefore the subject of individual and group experiences, with applications on practical cases. The course concludes with a discussion on the social and organizational aspects of creativity and innovation.

Corazza Giovanni Emanuele

Innovation is an important lever for success for small and large companies. The innovative capacity of companies is influenced by several factors, related to: the environment in which they operate (sector, ecosystem, global dynamics and trends); the organizational context (culture, incentives, relationships and knowledge base); the characteristics of individuals and their personal traits (skills, abilities, cognitive characteristics). The success of an innovative process is influenced by factors operating on those various levels. The objective of this workshop is to understand the holistic nature of innovation processes and the interrelationships between different factors that influence their success.

Learning approach

The study methodology of the Master alternates classroom learning with distance learning activities on the School’s e-learning platform, which is constantly monitored by dedicated instructors.

DISTANCE LEARNING
The distance learning activities entail a weekly work-plan on the School’s e-learning platform that provides an individual learning activity overseen by the specific tutor. The platform is equipped with a Forum aimed at the real time sharing of comments and follow-up between professors and participants.

HOW COURSES WORK
Courses allow participants to study a single subject area, ensuring an effective path to progress.
The Master is held in two different locations: a physical one at Villa Guastavillani, home to the Bologna Business School in Bologna, and a virtual one, i.e. the e-learning platform.
Each course begins with an in-classroom session. The professor holds an introductory class, evaluates the competency level of participants on a specific topic, and informs them about how to use the material they will find on the platform and the objectives of the course. During the following weeks the participants continue the course on the platform. Therefore, the learning path is linear, constantly monitored by the course tutor, who is always available for clarifications and follow-up.
8 hours of study per week are expected. Each course concludes with a final test to evaluate the level of learning each candidate has achieved.

Faculty

Faculty members at Bologna Business School work together offering outstanding teaching standards. An international and interdisciplinary approach is guaranteed by a joint team of distinguished national core professors, adjunct, visiting professors, guest speakers and top managers.

Furthermore, the Master is designed for team leaders or managers of company units with high levels of technological innovation; professionals, managers and consultants who oversee highly innovative projects and entrepreneurs in sectors with a high utilization of innovative technologies. The program is open to graduates and to persons who do not hold a degree. In the latter case a minimum of 5 years of work experience is required.

APPLICATION PROCESS

The selection process is made through an analysis of the Curriculum Vitae and an individual interview aimed at identifying the professional profile of the candidates with regard to their participation in the Master.

Neither audits nor participation in single courses is allowed.

FAQs

The selection process consists of an interview with the Master’s Director, organised by the Program Manager upon candidate request and after sending of the Curriculum Vitae. The interview is not binding on enrollment.

The Program Manager can send a certificate of attendance record at the end of the didactic sessions to those that make a request, upon verification of the attendance.

In order to get admitted to the Master Executive, it is required to have a Bachelor’s Degree, however, a limited number of places are available for those who do not have a Bachelor’s Degree but that can demonstrate to have significant professional experience, to be evaluated during the assessment interview.

No, it is not. The Executive Masters are not University Masters, therefore they do not have ECTS credits (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System), that in Italy are called “crediti formativi universitari (CFU).

At the end of the Master, a certificate of attendance (which includes the achieved results) and a Diploma of Participation (upon verification of successful completion of each course and of at least a 70% of class attendance) are issued.

No, because it is not a university Master.
