A Master means accessing a company: why attend this post-grad course

24 August 2017

In the last few years, something new has happened in higher education: more and more young people choose to attend a Master after their 3-year degree course, rather than continuing with two more years at university, wrote Rosamaria Sarno in an article published in the Harvard Business Review.

This trend has become consolidated with the economic crisis: for many, newly graduated or already working, the Master’s is a concrete chance to gain access more quickly to the labor market.

There are different reasons that push them to take this decision, in the first place the wish to learn practical applications of their study subjects as well. Indeed, Master’s courses give you the chance to challenge yourself, effectively measuring yourself up to companies’ needs, by way of project works and case-studies. One of the aspects that is more attractive for applicants is precisely the close contact with businesses: this way participants hope to increase their chances to find a job consistent with their studies. It’s a known fact that the percentage of those who find a job after attending a Master is high and steadily growing, thanks to the value that this qualification adds to every C.V. and the opportunities it offers to interact with structured companies, always on the lookout for competent, new resources.

For Bologna Business School the interaction with companies is the cornerstone of all its Master’s, with different formulas: successful managers are invited to tell their story and provide advice on how to deal with the most frequent problems; company visits are organized to the most representative businesses, to observe directly the functioning of an operating company; participants are invited to come up with real solutions for case-studies that businesses submit to them, thus developing the ability to work in a team, as well.

It’s not by chance that today over 90% (average related to latest edition) of those who graduated from a full-time BBS Master’s course is already working for a company six months after the end of the course. Top employers for BBS students: Max Mara, Lamborghini, Ducati, Nestlè, Liu Jo, Montenegro, Hera, Champion Europe, Credem, to name but a few.

As the first objective of a Master is to prepare participants for the labor market, a particularly relevant step is the choice of internship. BBS supports its students with its Career Service. Students are helped in the drafting of a CV that is relevant to the market’s needs; then they are assisted and guided with customized interviews aimed at letting their interests and strengths emerge, so to transform them into a professional project; finally a service to prepare them for interviews is provided, simulating selection processes.

As Luciano Boccucci, founder and Ceo of NoStopEvolution stated: “Nowadays, educational requirements are increasingly focused on courses that need to be effectively helpful and relevant, able to deliver a concrete possibility on the market for participants, considering the investment of resources it requires”.
