Innovation Talks. Gian Luca Branca

Gian Luca Branca, CEO of KUKA Roboter Italia, will close the Spring Edition of the Innovation Talks 2019. During his speech Orange Intelligenz: KUKA’s vision for the future of automation, he will discuss with the BBS Community the Industry 4.0 and IoT within the framework of the smart factory and the collaborative robotics. The event is organized in collaboration with Philip Morris Italia.

KUKA AG was founded in 1898 by Johann Joseph Keller and Jakob Knappich in Augsburg, Germany. In 1973, KUKA writes history as a robotics pioneer by developing FAMULUS – the world’s first industrial robot with six electromechanically driven axes. In 1996, KUKA is the first robot manufacturer to introduce an open PC-based controller. In 2007, KUKA launched KR titan: with a payload capacity of 1,000 kilograms and a reach of 3,200 mm, it is the world’s largest and strongest 6-axis industrial robot.

Today, the company is one of the world’s leading suppliers of robotic technology and plant engineering, as well as in the development and supply of intelligent automation solutions. KUKA’s corporate structure is composed by the following Divisions: industries, automotive, consumer goods & logistics automation and healthcare. As a technology leader, KUKA sets standards in the automation sector all over the world. In addition to the headquarters at the production and development site in Augsburg, the Group is internationally represented with about 100 companies and 14,200 employees worldwide.

In 1986, after graduating in Mechanical Engineering at the Turin Polytechnic, Gian Luca Branca began his career at Comau S.p.A. where he developed robotic automation projects for the automotive sector. In 2000, he took part as a manager in a start-up of the KPMG / Telecom Italia joint venture in the field of e-commerce development services for the Italian B2B market.

In 2004, Branca joined KUKA Roboter Italia S.p.A., the Italian subsidiary of the German multinational KUKA Robotics, where he held the role of General Sales Manager for the Robotics Division. In 2010 he became CEO of the company.
