INDUSTRIAL PhD PROGRAMME IN COMPUTER SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING

Major in A.I. and Innovation Management

Companies, to successfully meet new global challenges, need access to highly skilled technical personnel capable of extracting value from the pervasiveness of new technologies, artificial intelligence, and IoT across all business processes. New technicians will therefore need an in-depth knowledge of the technology and, at the same time, they should be able to appreciate its spillovers and impact on organizational processes and functions.

In the PhD Programme in Computer Science and Engineering with a major in Artificial Intelligence and Innovation Management of the University of Bologna, we aim to train the next generation of computer scientists and engineers, equipping them with cutting-edge technical competencies and a solid background in innovation management.

The 3 year PhD Programme is offered by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, in partnership with the Department of Management and Bologna Business School, in collaboration with:

We are looking for a group of talented individuals, with a solid background in computer science and engineering, willing to engage in real-world management-related challenges.

We offer 15 doctoral scholarships of a total gross amount of €70,000 (including gross salary and research allowances). Each scholarship is linked to a specific company project and, subject to the approval of the scientific committee, is increased by €20,000.

THE PROGRAMME AT A GLANCE 

A 3 year programme taught in English. Training and experiential activities will take place throughout the whole program; however, the first part will include doctoral courses and workshops, while the second half will focus on PhD research projects, which will be developed at the hosting company, with the support of international research institutions and company branches.

YEAR 1

Twelve courses, seven in computer science and five in management, taught by the University of Bologna and international faculty, with the involvement of corporate lecturers. Topics include: artificial intelligence cybersecurity, data analytics and management, distributed and cloud computing, IoT, machine learning, programming languages, software engineering, econometrics, organizational behavior, research in strategic operations, strategic management, technology management and entrepreneurship.

YEAR 2

The main focus is on the research project at the hosting company and the visiting period. Students will also attend courses, workshops, and seminars at Bologna Business School, taught by managers, entrepreneurs, and faculty to increase the cross-fertilizations between computer science and innovation management.

YEAR 3

The main focus is the PhD thesis as an outcome of the research project.
