Fun Coding Kids Bootcamp 2018
A bootcamp organized by BBS for the children of the BBS Community members
during the Graduation 2018 & XII Alumni Reunion
BBS Fun Coding Kids Bootcamp is a training program in which kids learn and experience basic aspects of “coding”, through playful activities that progressively lead them to create a videogame, interacting in a team working approach with their mates and the guidance of code wizards.
The project of this year – called Smart T-shirt– is special. It involves the development of virtual microworlds that will become – at some point – physical, extendingthe BBS T-shirt into a… smart explosion of lights and colours.
The methodology is that of MIT Lifelong Kindergarten, i.e. “learn to code, code to learn”, which is focused on creativity, making, exploration/tinkering, interaction and integration of computational thinking principles, with the support of educational tools that are different from e-skills.
The bootcamp is for kids from 7 to 11 years old, in Italian, and will take place at Villa Guastavillani for a total of 10 hours of activities, according to the following time schedule:
- Friday, July 6th, from 9.00 am to 12:30 pm, from 2:00 to 4:30 pm
- Saturday, July 7th, from 9 .00 am to 1:00 pm
This initiative is reserved for the children of the members of the BBS Community (students, alumni, faculty and staff) and is free of charge. There will be some breaks and lunch on Friday.

The code wizards are:
Alessandro Ricci is associated professor at Department of Computer Science: Science and Engineering (DISI), Bologna University, and is s teacher at Degree Courses in Engineering and Computer Science, Cesena. Since May 2015 is director of CRIAD, institution for Ser.In.Ar, dedicated to education projects on computer science, in collaboration with the University.
Angelo Croatti is PhD student in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (DISI), University of Bologna. In December 2014 he obtained a Master’s Degree in Engineering and Computer Science. In 2016 he won the “Gianni Bassi Award 2015-2016” given by the Rotary Club as the best master thesis in Engineering and Architecture of the School of Engineering and Architecture of the University of Bologna, Campus of Cesena, Forlì, Ravenna.
Laura Tarsitano, with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering, operates since more than two years within the context of Coding and Computational Thinking, with activities carried out in primary and secondary schools. Since 2018, she is the director of the “CRIAD-Coding” section of the Research Centre for Informatics Applied to Didactics (CRIAD) of Cesena that operates for promoting coding and computational thinking oriented activities.
