Julia Baccarini: “Global MBA, a real full immersion into Made in Italy”

9 May 2019

My name is Julia Baccarini, I am Brazilian and in the last 10 years I have lived in 5 different countries. During the university I started my career into Tech till I realized I’d like to specialize in Luxury, an immature sector in Brazil until some time ago. The Luxury-Italy combination was a natural transition, so, when I decided to continue my studies in order to extend my knowledge in the field, I had no doubt and I opted for the MBA in Design, Fashion and Luxury Goods at Bologna Business School.
But let’s proceed with order. During my studies in Business Administration in Porto Alegre, I lived for two years between the UK and Australia before returning to Brazil to do an internship in pricing at Dell, one of the most important American Tech companies. When I graduated, I was hired and involved in online marketing for the Latin American market, with particular attention to the customer shopping experience, following e-mail marketing and merchandising.

Then I worked as Demand Planner for consumers and I lived 6 months in Texas, working in the headquarters of the company in a project to represent Brazil; it was a fundamental experience that allowed me to further expand my prospects.

Back in my hometown, I felt the need to change the course and to give a more specific focus to my professional career, getting closer to Luxury. This career break would never have happened if I didn’t have attended the Global MBA in Design, Fashion and Luxury Goods at BBS.

A master aimed at developing my managerial skills, in a very special setting surrounded by the hills of Bologna, and that allowed me to breathe the “Dolce Vita” (Sweet life) for which Italy is so well known. It was an important year in my life, professional and not only: surrounded by colleagues from all over the world, I took part in master classes held by executives from the Luxury Industry and I visited some important companies as Giuseppe Zanotti, Ferretti Group, Ducati, Lamborghini.

One of the strengths of the Master is certainly the Faculty, a great mix of academics and professionals of important Italian companies that allowed us to connect with the Italian expertise: for me it was a unique opportunity to blend the theory with the experience of the best Italian industry champions.

After the Master I started an internship at Bulgari in Miami, where I was in charge of marketing for the LatAm market and immediately afterwards another adventure was opened in the sector in my country of origin. In 2013 I joined Ermenegildo Zegna where I worked in communication and marketing, managing CRM, Media planning, budget, direct marketing, PR, events and Customer Service for the Brazilian market.

The Master for me was much more than a simple course of studies, but an authentic full immersion in the Made in Italy, made possible also by the Italian classes offered by the school, which literally revolutionized my working profile directing it towards what was and remains my sector of interest.
