Federico Montanari is adjunct professor in Semiotics of Media and Visual Communication (University of Modena-Reggio Emilia) and in Semiotics and Design (University of Bologna), (formerly in Psychology of Intercultural Communication) and is co-founder and researcher for CUBE (Centre for Ethnosemiotic Research). He deals with visual communication, semiotics of media and fashion, analysis of political discourse, analysis and design of communication, anthropology and visual languages, strategies of advertising. He has worked as a consultant for the analytical, creative design and visual communication design for some agencies operating mainly in the field of public and institutional communication (including: CRA Group Nielsen Study Kuni, Homina). He has carried out analysis and consulting in the field of public communication and emergency (in particular: Regional Agency for Civil Protection, Regione Emilia-Romagna, AUSL of Bologna City). He has had teaching assignments at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Milan Polytechnic, The Free University of Bolzano, IULM, IED, ISIA. He graduated in Political Sciences (Sociology) from the University of Bologna, where he earned his PhD in Semiotics.
