Roberto Napoletano meets BBS. Dialogue on the Italian and European crisis

May 14 2018 - 6.00 PM - Bologna Business School - Via Degli Scalini 18 - Bologna

Roberto Napoletano, Italian journalist and writer, meets the BBS Community to debate about the years of the great crisis that struck at the heart of Italy and Europe during his experience as director of the newspapers Il Messaggero and Il Sole 24 Ore, summarized in his latest book Il cigno nero e il cavaliere bianco. Diario italiano della grande crisi (The black swan and the white knight. The Italian diary of the Great Crisis; La nave di Teseo, 2017).

The story told by Napoletano begins in November 2011, when it comes down on Italy the Black Swan – the perfect storm of the markets – and arrives until nowadays. Through new unpublished meetings and documentary evidence, Napoletano rewrites the history of the great Italian crisis, the sovereign crisis and the banking crisis, exposing hidden responsibilities.

Roberto Napoletano started his journalistic career at a very young age, writing on Napoli Oggi and Napoli Notte. Hired by Il Mattino in 1984, he later became responsible for the Economy. In 1996 he started working for Il Sole 24 Ore of which he was head of service, editor in chief of the Italian economy and finally vice-director at the Capitoline office.

He was appointed director of Il Messaggero in 2006 and from 2011 to 2017 he was director of Il Sole 24 Ore. Under his direction, Il Messaggero has brought back on the front page the great investigations (thus obtaining a special award for the Saint-Vincent Journalism 2007) and has strengthened the dialogue with readers and the city through the heading “Tell to Il Messaggero” and campaigns on mobility, degradation and security.

Among his publications we can mention : Fatti per vincere (Made to win – 1996), Mezzogiorno, risorsa nascosta (Mezzogiorno, hidden resource – 1997), Se il Sud potesse parlare (If the South could talk – 1999), Padroni d’Italia (Masters of Italy – 2004), Fardelli d’Italia (Burdens of Italy – 2005), Padroni e Fardelli d’Italia (Masters and Burdens of Italy – 2006), Viaggio in Italia (Travel in Italy – 2014) e ll cigno nero e il cavaliere bianco (The Black Swan and the White Knight – 2017).
