Dr. Nicola Searle is Senior Lecturer at ICCE. An economist and management scholar who specialises in innovation, intellectual property and the digital economy, Nicola has two key research lines: the first examines innovation in the creative industries through the lens of copyright and business models in digital media. The second investigates trade secrets, knowledge flows and innovation.
Dr. Searle is former Chair, UK Research & Innovation (UKRI) Digital Security and Resilience Advisory Board; former Chair, UKRI Digital Economy Advisory Board; board member, UK Intellectual Property Office Expert Advisory Group; Visiting Professor, Bologna; board member European Policy on Intellectual Property association; and Visiting Research Fellow, Centre for Innovation Management Research, Birkbeck. Dr. Searle has held three prestigious Fellowships: a Thomas Edison Innovation Policy Fellowship at George Mason University a UKRI Digital Economy Early Career Fellowship and a UKRI Placement Fellowship.
Dr. Searle has a PhD Economics (St Andrews), a MA Strategy & Economics (St Andrews) and a BS International Economics (Georgetown). She has held over €1 million in research funding from UK, EU and US sources. Her work reflects knowledge developed from four years as a Financial Associate for Goldman Sachs.
