Andrea Mantovani is Associate Professor in the Department of Information, Operations and Management Sciences at Toulouse Business School. He is head of the MSc in Purchasing and Supply Chain Management (full-time program). He is also an Associate Member of the Toulouse School of Economics. At Bologna Business School, he teaches Digital Economics in the Master in Data Science and Business Analytics, Master in Artificial Intelligence and Innovation Management and Master in Finance and Fintech. He received both his M.A. and PhD in Quantitative Economics from CORE, Université Catholique de Louvain. He was an affiliated researcher at the Barcelona Institute of Economics (University of Barcelona). He was also a visiting scholar at the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University. His main research focus is on industrial economics, specifically in the areas of digital economy, managerial economics, competition policy and regulation, and economics of innovation. He is also an expert in the fields of game theory, environmental economics, and health economics. He wrote a book on the Economics of the European Integration.

 

COURSES

The digitization of the economy is one of the most relevant issues of our time. The objective of this course is to analyze how digital economy has fundamentally challenged traditional business models and created new business opportunities. We will start with a brief introduction of the digital economy and then analyze the specific business strategies adopted by the different players in this ecosystem, specifically platforms. We will also discuss the implications for public policy and regulation. In particular, we will consider whether new business practices and contracts in the digital economy are beneficial or detrimental to society. Real case studies related to Amazon, Airbnb, Booking.com, Facebook, Google, Uber, and others, will be analyzed.
