Michele Lombardi is an associate professor at DISI, University of Bologna. His research activity is related to the integration of Optimization and Artificial Intelligence, with an emphasis on Machine Learning, Constraint Programming, Mathematical Programming, and SAT Modulo Theories.

He is in the editorial board of the “Constraints” journal, and a reviewer for top-rated International Journals such as “Artificial Intelligence”.

He won the Marco Cadoli award for the best PhD thesis on Artificial Intelligence in 2010 and he won the Gauss Award for the best paper at ISC 2016, and a distinguished Senior Program Committee member award at AAAI 2019 and UAI 2023.

He has been a visiting researcher at the Intelligent Information Systems Institute of Cornell University, at the Integrated System Laboratory of the Ecole Polytechnique Féderale de Lausanne, at the Belgian Constraints group of the Université Catholique de Louvain, at the Business School of the University of Edinburgh, at the Université de Nice-Sophia Antipolis. He was a co-founder of the AI start-up MindIT S.r.L., which was later acquired by Kantar Group.
