Maria Alessandra Ancona is a Junior Assistant Professor of Energy Systems and Power Generation at the Department of Industrial Engineering of the University of Bologna and part of the researchers team of the BBS Centre for Sustainability and Climate Change. In addition, Dr. Ancona is responsible of the experimental activities of the Lab Microreti di Generazione e Accumulo at the CIRI-FRAME University of Bologna.
Her main research and teaching interests include innovative energy systems and optimization strategies for the design and management of smart energy grids with particular focus on thermal networks and renewables, power-to-X and storage technologies, cogeneration, heat recovery and green hydrogen.
Awarded in 2020 by the International Gas Turbine Institute of the American Society of Mechanical Engineering with the Young Engineer Travel Award, Dr. Ancona has been also Honorary Member of the Italian Association of Fluid Mechanics end Systems for Energy and Environment (AIMSEA) and of the Italian Thermotechnical Association (ATI). In addition, she has been awarded by ATI for her PhD Thesis, with the Honorable Mention within the “Alfano e Caputo” Prize.
During her academic career, Dr. Ancona has published over 80 papers, most of which in International Journals, and she currently collaborates with Siemens Energy, ENEA, CNR and other important companies of the energy sector.
Dr. Ancona received her PhD in Mechanics and Advanced Engineering Sciences from the University of Bologna.
