Honorary Degree to Massimo Bottura

Massimo Bottura – chef and entrepreneur of Osteria Francescana in Modena, ranked number one among the World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2016 and with three Michelin stars – will be awarded a Honorary Degree in Business Administration, on Monday, February 6th, at 6pm, in Aula Magna Santa Lucia. Rector Francesco Ubertini will confer the degree.

“The path of Massimo Bottura is found at a crossroads between entrepreneurship, culture and technology, and is an example of the diffusion of Italian culture around the world and the development of Made in Italy at an international level “- explains the Rector, Francesco Ubertini.

“Massimo Bottura is an exemplary case of how to manage a small Italian family business, achieving unprecedented success and a global reputation in just a few years. Starting from a business perspective, he has employed a deliberate growth strategy aimed at the development of quality and international visibility, which is due to his vision, entrepreneurial capacity, creation and management team, product innovation and a very high level of service achievement.”

 

Massimo Bottura is a member of Bologna Business School’s Faculty, specifically for the Global MBA Food and Wine, for which he taught within the course Management and Creativity in the Restaurant Industry. During his meetings with the students, his goal has always been to transmit ideas such as respect for your team, the importance of passion for your local surroundings and the products characterising it, the centrality of memory and the techniques servicing creativity including its intense creative motivation. Bottura is one of the main ambassadors of Made in Italy around the world.

Biography

Born in Modena September 30th, 1962. In 1984 just following secondary school he enrolled as a law student at the University of Modena. After two years he left the university and opted instead to work in the family business, active in the petroleum products industry, and later bought the trattoria Campazzo in Nonantola. In 1995 he took over Osteria Francescana. After a few years it attracted the attention of international critics, soon climbing the rankings, up until when it finally achieved three Michelin stars 2011 and later reached the top of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list in 2016. During the Milan Expo 2015, he launched Refettorio Ambrosiano, a new format dedicated to sustainability and people in need. From that experience comes the non-profit organization Food for Soul, with which he has launched several similar projects, such as in Rio de Janeiro for the Olympic Games.
