Fabrizio Saccomanni meets BBS. The future Business Model for the Banking sector

May 23 2018 - 6 pm - Bologna Business School - Via degli Scalini 18 - Bologna

Fabrizio Saccomanni, Chairman of UniCredit, will be a guest of Bologna Business School to share his vision about the future of the banking sector, starting from his experience as a banker, economist and politician. Trasformare il modello di business: una scelta non rinviabile per le banche (Transforming the business model: a choice that can not be postponed by banks), is the title of the Master Lecture dedicated to the Community of BBS.

The increasing financial disintermediation and the new technologies available make urgent a profound change of the current banking business model, to make it more effective in relation to the new needs of companies and markets. The meeting with Fabrizio Saccomanni will be an opportunity to explore the possible future scenarios of this imminent and necessary transformation.

Fabrizio Saccomanni graduated in Economics and Commerce at the Bocconi University in Milan in 1966 and continued his studies at Princeton University (USA), devoting himself to further studies in monetary and international economics.

In 1967 he began his career in Banca d’Italia (Bank of Italy) and from 1970 to 1975 he was detached to the International Monetary Fund. In 1984 he took over the Foreign Relations Service and in 1997 he was appointed Central Director for Foreign Activities.

Between 1998 and 2002 he participated in the negotiations for the creation of the Economic and Monetary Union and collaborated in the Euro Committee for the management of the transition to the single currency.

In 2003 he left the Bank of Italy to assume the position of Vice President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, which he held until 2006, when he was appointed General Director of the Bank of Italy. In April 2013 he resigned to take up the post of Minister of Economy and Finance, which he held until February 2014. Since 2014 he has been the Bank’s honorary General Manager.

In April 2018 Fabrizio Saccomanni was appointed Chairman of UniCredit.

Jean-Claude Trichet, former president of the European Central Bank, said of him: “He has a unique talent to express profound concepts with an Italian eloquence and a British sense of humor.”

The event, dedicated to the BBS Community, will be held in Italian with simultaneous translation into English. Registration is required to participate.
