BBS Career Service: the meeting point between education and business

«The greatest goal of the Career Service is to communicate market trends and current developments to students. In recent years, the job market has experienced considerable changes and, along with it, first-time job applicants and those searching for different professional challenges have had to adapt to the new rules. The business world and its dynamics have become more complex and competitive. Therefore, it is necessary to approach it with the right preparation and tools. The opportunities are unlimited, as in any other time of change, but you have to know how to identify, manage and take advantage of them». Andrea Zani, head of the BBS Career Service, describes the work that the Career Service does for students at Bologna Business School.

The way you present yourself, with personal branding, and the way of networking, with professional networking, has changed. We need to identify and organize initiatives to link students’ academic preparation to the business world. The approach is customized to the students’ requirements, and they are allocated a Career Counselor. His task is to bring out the students’ potential, to improve their knowledge and skills in order to find a path that leads to the sector and company most in touch with their personal profile and project.

The BBS Career Service follows students according to their individual needs and plays a proactive role, supporting the school’s activities with seminars and individual meetings. It provides a customized career development service, designed to build a personal plan to help students achieve their goals. During the year, orientation meetings with the Career Counselor are supported by specific activities such as CV and Cover Letter writing seminars, seminars on creating an effective LinkedIn profile, Career coaching with industry experts, seminars on how to deal with a job interview, and simulated interviews with headhunters. All with the aim of improving individual competencies, which are necessary to get the best possible position in the job market.

The Career Service not only looks after students and alumni but also BBS stakeholders: working side by side with companies, recruitment requests are developed in harmony with the School’s teaching program: companies can organize on-campus presentations, project works and host BBS students on internships. Over the years, these links have been strengthened, thanks to the School’s active involvement in the company network and in the Program Advisory Committees of each Master, composed by leaders of Made in Italy companies.

This work is constantly growing and is developed with a global approach and supporting local companies at the same time, with a view to help the excellence with which BBS works every day become more competitive at national and international level.

Andrea Zani concludes: «the primary goal of the Career Service is, therefore, to put BBS talents in touch with business partners, both national and international, through activities such as presentations and company visits, career days, project works, and internships».
