Piero Tantini is from Bologna and has been in the wine business for over 20 years. He is a fond taster and selector of thousands of wines from all over the world. With a background in sales he graduated in Economics at Bologna University and decided to develop a new business idea in the wine retail sector, opening the Godot Wine Bar in 1996 as one of the first wine bars in Italy. From then on he has always been owning and managing wine retail and import-export businesses. He has selected and traded wines with an emphasis on small producers of excellence from Australia, Argentina, Chile, New Zealand, South Africa, United States, France, Austria, Germany and exported Italian wines into Europe and overseas. He has contributed to the business planning and development of companies exporting Italian wines in the UK and of companies importing French wines into the Italian market. As a consultant he has managed the start up of companies in the restaurant and hospitality sector. He is judge at the International Wine Challenge in London and has been providing wine training both at university level and in post graduate schools. He makes regular appearances on radio and TV broadcasts in Italy. He is a contributor to the “Corriere della Sera” (Bologna) and co-author of the Italian edition of “1001 wines you must try before you die”. Now living in Sydney, he is importing Italian wines with the highest possible content of varietal/terroir/philosophy character through his company Godot Wines, thus fulfilling his commitment to promote the values of Italian and European oenology in Australia.
