Alessandro Merli is associate fellow of the Johns Hopkins University at the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) Europe and adjunct professor at the Bologna Business School. His main research interests are central banking and international financial regulation. He has worked for the Italian business daily, Il Sole 24 Ore, as Frankfurt correspondent and ECB watcher, columnist, financial editor and London correspondent. In 2014 he taught a course at the Global MBA of the BBS and was voted best teacher by the students. He previously taught at the universities of Parma and Modena/Reggio Emilia. He won the first Italian edition of the Citigroup Award for Journalistic Excellence and received the Order of the Southern Cross from the President of Brazil. He has a degree in Law from the University of Modena and a MA in Economics from the University of Illinois. He was a visiting scholar at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is an independent director of the Italian bank, Credito Emiliano.
