Luciano Bononi (MSC, Summa cum laude, 1997, Ph.D, 2001), is a tenured Associate Professor of Computer Networks (11145), Internet of Things (81683), Wireless and Mobile System (77808) and Mobile Applications (66860) at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) of the University of Bologna. He is a member of the doctoral board for the PhD program in Computer Science. In 2012-2015 he was elected member of the academic senate of the University of Bologna. He has co-authored more than 120 peer reviewed journal and conference publications and 9 book chapters, receiving three best paper awards. His research areas include Wireless Systems and Networks, Internet of Things, Internet of Energy, modeling, simulation, performance evaluation, mobile services and mobile applications. He has participated with coordination roles in more than 10 international and national research projects, and he is Associate Editor of five international Journals (receiving a best editor award in 2014) and guest edited more than 10 special issues, being recognized for outstanding service and receiving multiple certificates of appreciation by the IEEE Computer Society and Elsevier. He was chair in more than 15 IEEE/ACM international conferences and TPC member in more than 150 IEEE/ACM conferences on the above research topics. He is the founder and director of the Laboratory of Wireless Systems and Mobile Applications at CSE.
Enabling software technologies for the IoT are typically provided through IoT platforms. The course provides a general overview of IoT platforms, as well as an introduction to some of the most widespread technologies available.
